1996 Reunion

13 year after leaving Poly
another 12 years passed
place changed
outfit changed
hair changed
but some fundamantals never change
when I look back from the videos and
compare to my old memories
as well as our recent encounter
Time may be good enough to change how we look
but never the way how we laugh

This is a 4 minute cut from the 80 minutes long
home video I took during the reunion held
last century at the Yacht Club organized by
our beloved Peter.
More than 20 people attended,
a very successful party indeed

Great performer - Petrus

The Great Performer - Petrus

It all started with
a banner that caught
the attention of Patrick, then an email titled 'see who is the Star' sent around the world.

Of course this has to be our Rhino (sai ngau), the singing Rhino!

I still remember his first performance in Poly Singing Contest 1979, he was like a Broadway Star, may be Frank Sinatra, singing 'Operator' from the famous sentimental short lived song writer Jim Croce, but Petrus gave a relax yet hilarious flare to the song, and showed extraordinary strong confidence. The stage was more like his own entertainment show than a contest. The audience was all led by him - when to be silent and when to burst into laughter, even when to applaud, his talent made him a magician on stage.

Yet he was not satisfied at being a pop singing talent only, he chose to explore his talent into classical singing with his luxuriant baritone soon after our Poly days, and has become a virtuoso all through these years.

I happen to have a clip of Petrus singing during our gathering in Jan 1996, that I want to share with you all through the internet.
I just learn how to use a video editing program, so well, may not be as perfect as it should be, as William Hung's motto, 'I've given my best la...'
Sorry Petrus I can't keep my promise this time as not to let this clip go public, otherwise I do not know why I recorded it in the first place, you were just soooo great that night!!

Enjoy.

And don't forget to buy a ticket to see a great performer on stage - Petrus just rolls into his half century existence if I do not remember wrongly, which means he has put half of his lifetime into the hard work as a famous local baritone, he's not just a star on a street banner but a promising star on the stage, no doubt.

Too bad I am not there... so if you are in HK and you are free on saturday night 12 July 2008, go to his concert and be flooded in his tremendous magnetic voice.

Congratulations and
Hugs to you Petrus!!
A very successful concert on Sat night!!

Hugs for Poly friends - reunion 2008

Meeting up friends on a June evening without getting wet is pretty fortunate in Hong Kong, despite the thunderstorm warning is up everyday, sometimes ties with yellow heavy rainfall warns.
June 4th 2008 was a night with exceptional clear sky, I was about to meet these long time Poly friends, of whom we haven't seen each other for years, I was more than just excited.

Took a cab from Central but jammed at Lo
ckhart and Ma Sze Road, couldn't wait for the traffic, I hopped down at the centre of crossroad, half ran to the Shunde Seafood Restaurant which Gloria strongly recommended and rushed to the very private VIP room on the 3rd floor, the unbelievably long staircase seemed endless.
W
hile heading half way up near the room,
a familiar voice came to my ears,

"Watch your steps, lady, let me..." and was trying to help my steps.

"I AM NOT that OLD!"

It was Dai-ngau, still playing the young and innocent, even at his 45!

Memories of those good old days suddenly filled the gap, laughter of various familiar voices poured from the Very Important Poly-friends room and the unforgettable faces appeared right in front of my very eyes with every step upward, like a 54" LCD high definition TV, so close... so real that I could actually touch them.

That moment was ... hard to describe, just phenomenal.
I wanted to give each and everyone a big big hug. ************************************************************************
  • Thomas is very handsome still, changes to trendy tight jeans instead of his classic college old boy's trousers, a lady killer
  • Allen is now very talkative, gains weight and looks more & more like a Japanese Kung fu Master, just retired from the paparazzi newspaper
  • Corrina is still stunningly beautiful, shows us her lovely sons' pictures, one looks exactly like Joseph
  • David the same, 4'24", has 2 boys now, well maintained body despite the mileage - brand new just like his 4WD cars
  • Brenda, doesn't change a bit, still the protected youngest sister, in Shangri-la all these years
  • Patrick Ah-jing, the only change is probably a slight human flesh layer added on his bony body after 25 years, plus a Master degree in Design
  • Lily, same quiet but you know it never means silent, fabulous in her little black dress, pretty
  • Gloria, is still busy at her Choice business, energetic as usual, most of the gatherings would not be so successful without her magnetic power
  • Rosaline, still the same old look as she first appeared in St Johannes, shows us her son's wedding pictures, but the bride catches all the boys' attentions, sooooo...pretty
  • Steven, always the subtle and caring gentleman who stands behind the crowd, handsome as usual
  • Herman, still good looking as before, if hair means all the troubles in life, Herman is definitely trouble free, he's so bold...oops I mean so bald
  • Accidental attendee Patrick Fong, a 1978 Poly friend whose name was enlisted in our mailing list, Gloria has special interest with those named Patrick..... she's excused given the fact that she's in 'Choice' business
  • Peter comes last because of his busy work, same naughty guy though spices with sand and pepper on his head through the years, charming as usual, redirects his career into lighting specialist which leads him into another busy yet fruitful new challenges.
************************************************************************

I'd like to thank Gloria for making this gathering possible in such short time, I'm working on the 1983 Japan study tour and 1995 gathering DVDs right now, will probably finish within days.
Thank you Ah-Fan, for your
calligraphy master work, will get a nice square frame for it, the hard thing is that I can't read the whole article word by word, need your help later.
I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone, I had a wonderful time that night which sure will shine my gloomy winter Vancouver days, thank you all, luv u.

Hugs.

I've uploaded the pictures I took to the following link, please take some time to enjoy.
